I would argue that the core of the two are very similar though. If a game as simple and complete as connect four, can involve depth at such a deep level, then imagine how much depth a game like Stratego might involve. It is easy to fall into a victory in the game, but to consistently win, means understanding what your opponent is trying to do, as well as trying to deceive them of your intentions. How can you back them up into a corner, so they have no other option but to give you the win. How can you focus the attention of the opponent on something other than your goal. If you tried to hard code in connect four, well that would be very hard right off the bat, because a key to playing connect four is in some part deception. everything about the board, you can see, the only thing you don’t know is what you or your opponent will do yet. Connect four is a much simpler game, and it is also a very simple game for AI’s because it is a complete information game. What is the problem you are trying to solve. Before reading any of the literature on that has already delved into some of these topics, I think this problem should focus on general strategy, as opposed to solving any specific problem brought up in this game. The problem I am trying to solve isn’t, what is the best starting board for this game, it’s how can I create a system that understands strategy. There are some important points that I would like to draw from this. And still, you have no idea how your opponent has placed his/her own pieces. ![]() ![]() In short, there are a shit ton of ways for you to place your own pieces. ![]() For reference, recall that there are 40 pieces that you have to place, just for yourself. There is no way for me to hard code in these strategies and create an intelligent system to beat an average player. Or placing high rank pieces at the forefront of the board so you can remove as many enemy pieces as possible.īut, these are strategies that people use. Additionally, like any game there are certain strategies that people have developed to play the game smarter or better, such as keeping the flag in a safe space, and surrounding it with bombs. For my purposes, that game can be summarized down into those key points. ![]()
